The Cabernet Shiraz has been a Loxton Cellars favorite since the first version in 2005. The style has changed little over the years except for showing the natural vintage variations.Tasted from barrel, the wine has great color, some of the mulberry fruit of Cabernet which dominates at the moment, while the palate shows some elegance and medium plus body with oak influence that adds to the excellent tannin structure. There is nice fruit sweetness and I expect this wine to be ready to drink in 12 months, but will also reward time in the cellar.

A crisp and clean white wine to have with shellfish, chicken, and salads. Simple in concept but not in flavor, this version shows the steely citrus notes of Riesling from "The Gables" Vineyard in Santa Rosa blended with some stone fruit and floral characters of our Estate Viognier. As both vineyards are getting a little older, I have noticed more depth in flavors and this vintage is our best effort by far. Extra time in bottle will add more richness and I am certain it will improve for another 3 years.

Mountain viticulture is indeed a different experience, and I can’t begrudge that these are the most expensive grapes I’ve ever purchased. This is true Mt. Veeder Cabernet sauvignon; excellent tannin structure and brushy fruit notes that seem to reflect the chapparal and high elevations of the mountain. I received fruit from 3 different vineyard blocks, and I think it should be enjoyed with bigger meals. Ready now but can be cellared for another 10-15 years.

32 is a special number for me as my dad was born in 1932, so this Bin 32 wine is a subtle nod to my father Bob, using the bin number scheme often used in Australia to designate where wines were stored for later labelling. This vintage is 66% Syrah (some coming from Rossi Ranch Vineyard and some from the Estate Vineyard) and 34% Cabernet sauvignon from McGraw Vineyard. A great food wine, big enough to match bigger meals, yet so balanced you can enjoy by itself. Enjoyable now but will easily improve for another 5-8 years in the cellar if you have patience.

The Ellen Syrah was first made in 2007 (and is still drinking beautifully!) and in later years morphed into the Reserve Syrah, but has then changed back to the more elegant and balanced style starting with the 2016. The 2019 continues this style with one further development, where we have co-fermented 6% Estate Viognier with the Syrah to help build aromatic complexity.

This Sonoma Valley Syrah is blended from 3 Syrah vineyards. I wanted a wine of moderate alcohol and blending has given us the depth of flavor to make it very versatile with food. It forcibly reminds me of the Syrah wines from cooler regions (Victoria in Australia and Northern France). Drink now and for the next 3-5 years.

The new Port carries on a 15-year line of balanced and not too sweet dessert wines made by the Estate Syrah. The addition of grape alcohol has left the wine with enough residual sugar to accompany a dessert or cheese course, but without being too sweet or heavy. Good now and for 3-4 weeks after opening, or for 10+ years in the cellar.

The estate Syrah has shown that it deserves to be bottled separately, as it is a wonderful example of Syrah from here on the Estate vineyard. The 2019 is a little more fruit forward than the past few years and somewhat softer with a rounder tannin structure. A wine to enjoy now and for the next 5-8 years.

After many years I've been fortunate to once again get the fabulous fruit from Hawk Hill vineyard in Freestone which was the source of my first Pinot in 2005!
