2019 Harvest Schedule
Want to be sure you don't miss out on the action this harvest? We will be posting pick dates* and harvest activities here so you can be sure you don't miss a beat.
September 17th: Estate Syrah for Rosé (Pick #1)
Our first red grapes for the year will be picked at lower sugar (22brix) and higher acid to be used in our very popular dry Rosé. The grapes will come from the vines next to the picnic area and along the driveway. Picking will start early at 7:00 and will be our largest Estate pick of the year so far with an estimated 2.5 tons. The press will be loaded with the whole clusters and the fresh juice will run off and fill into tank for about 2-3 hours allowing you to not only see but also smell harvest. Stop by to catch the action!
September 19th: Pinot Noir from Hawk Hill Vineyard (Russian River Valley)
We are very excited to be receiving Pinot Noir grapes from Hawk Hill Vineyard in Freestone this year. While we have been getting Chardonnay from this vineyard for 18 years, the Pinot has been hard to come by and we have only had access to it 3 times in the past. The fruit will be picked by hand at night and delivered to us in the morning when it is still cold. The grapes will be sorted and gently destemmed before being hand shoveled into open top fermentation bins. Get a front row seat to the sorting and destemming process and see the amount of care that goes into handcrafted wine.
September 20th: Estate Syrah for Rosé (Pick #2)
Our second pick of Syrah for Rose will come from the wetter part of the vineyard (in front of the parking lot and next to the creek) where the grapes ripen slightly slower. The grapes will be picked slightly less ripe than we pick for res wines, coming in at 22 brix. Picking will start early at 7:00, the whole clusters will be loaded into the press and the fresh juice will run off and fill into tank for about 2-3 hours allowing you to not only see but also smell harvest. Stop by to catch the action!
