2019 Harvest Schedule
Want to be sure you don't miss out on the action this harvest? We will be posting pick dates* and harvest activities here so you can be sure you don't miss a beat.
October 15th: Random Ridge Cabernet (Mt. Veeder)
Round four of Cabernet from Random Ridge will be arriving from the very top of the Mayacamas mountains Mt. Veeder AVA. Hand-picked in small lots overnight, the fruit will be delivered in the morning and will be sorted as it is loaded into the crusher/destemmer. Once the grapes are off the stems, they will be hand shoveled into open top fermentation bins where they will stay until fermentation is finished. Get a front row seat to the sorting and destemming process and see the amount of care that goes into handcrafted wine.
October 16th: Estate Petite Sirah
This week is looking to be our final week for Estate grapes, with the Petite Sirah as the last pick for dry wine. This will be a small pick with only 4 rows planted on the property. The fruit will be harvested by hand in the morning by our staff and taken to the crush pad where it will be destemmed and crushed before being hand shoveled into open top fermentation bins. Small lots mean fast shoveling! Stop by to see handcrafted wines being produced up close.
October 18th: Estate Syrah for Port
Our final Estate pick will be Syrah that has been left our longer than typical to gain more sugar content for a delicious dessert wine. While they may look a little shriveled, these are possibly the tastiest berries to eat right off the vine coming in around 28brix. Hand-picked by our staff early in the morning, the grapes will be sorted as it is loaded into the crusher/destemmer. Once the grapes are off the stems, they will be hand shoveled into open top fermentation bins where they will stay until fermentation is stopped by the addition of alcohol to keep sweetness in the wine. Get a front row seat to the sorting and destemming process and see the amount of care that goes into handcrafted wine.
October 19th: McGraw Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon (Sonoma Valley)
We will be finalizing our season with a large pick of Cabernet coming in from McGraw Vineyard (located just two properties over from us). The grapes will be hand-harvested at night and delivered early in the morning when the fruit is still cold. We are expecting quite a bit of fruit this year so the crusher/destemmer will be working away for the first half of the day removing the berries from the stems and breaking the skins. Once we are done with the destemming, the fruit will be hand shoveled into open top fermentation bins where it will wait for native yeast to start fermentation. Don't miss the action!
