2019 Bin 32 Futures
This blend was introduced with the 2018 wine when a big harvest of Cabernet sauvignon gave me additional wine to play with. Having made a wine for my grandparents, it was a natural extension to make a tribute to my father who has played such a inspiring model for my own efforts in the wine industry. The wine I made was based on Syrah with Cabernet playing the minor role and the best blend was around 32% and by co-incidence, my father was born in 1932 so I borrowed the Australian nomenclature of using Bin numbers for the wines. It had originally been used in the days when wines were bottled and then labelled later at release and the unlabeled bottles stored in “bin” locations. This 2019 version has used 33% Cabernet sauvignon, and the Syrah component mostly from the Rossi Ranch and a smaller component from here on the Estate. The Cabernet shows in the mulberry fruit, but the Rossi Syrah adds lots of richness even though it adds more tannin. Estate Syrah softens the wine to round it out. Tasted from barrel we have excellent color, lots of fruit and a bigger style wine that will be at its best with richer foods and that will age particularly well. I expect that it will need a full 12 months from bottling to show its best. To be bottled 8/9/21, 150 cases and screwcap finish.
